Kapalabhati, Nadi Shodhana and Ujjayi are not physiologically identical techniques. But each can require deliberate regulation of breathing, attention, timing and internal state. Family Integrity treats them as different training tasks within one larger field of self-regulation and acquired capacity.

84 participants were randomized to fast pranayama, slow pranayama or control. Fast practice included Kapalabhati; slow practice included Nadi Shodhana. After 12 weeks, both pranayama groups improved executive functions, perceived stress and reaction time; reverse digit span improved only in the fast group.
In 61 children aged 11–12, an 18-minute high-frequency yoga-breathing condition increased total attempts and net scores on an attention cancellation task. The design tested an acute effect, not a long-term clinical treatment.
A randomized trial in 131 school-aged children reported improvements in attention allocation, attention shifting, attention span and attention stability after a 12-week yoga programme compared with physical education and control.
A 2022 systematic review and meta-analysis found increases in vagally mediated heart-rate variability during voluntary slow breathing, immediately after a session and after multi-session interventions. This supports autonomic-regulation claims for slow breathing broadly, not every specific Ujjayi claim.
A systematic review of slow-breathing studies reported changes involving autonomic and central nervous-system activity together with psychological outcomes such as relaxation, alertness and reduced arousal.
We distinguish evidence for a single technique from evidence for a protocol that includes it, acute effects from long-term training, and research in adults from research in children. We do not convert a measurable effect into a promise to treat ADHD or another diagnosis.
